Creative Goals
Hello Void,
I wrote some music this week! It was very derivative of a piece from a TV show soundtrack** but hey, I’ll take the win in terms of filling the void with creativity.
All that being said, let me lay out the goals I have and then inevitably look back and realize I have set too many. The goals are simple, but there is always a “vision” behind them. Overall, my vision is to continue being creative, which has fallen out of my life a little since 2021. I want creativity to be a habit that doesn’t just fall in and out but is constant.
Write music.
The Death Star of my goals. We can talk more about the walls I have in my head as we go, but I am hoping to release music so that people can listen to it. I love the process of it (which is a good start), but finding the time to not just write but get into the right mindset has been the hard part. Hoping to write 3 songs by the end of the year to have an EP of sorts.Play music
I am having better success recently with this one. If I can play drums or guitar once a week at minimum, I can keep my skill up to someday play publicly (covers or my own music, it doesn’t matter). And playing instruments can support the above goal. I am learning songs as I go to have something to work toward.Write words.
I have ideas in my brain that aren’t music, so this is the outlet I have chosen. I had some random story ideas recently and I started outlining some short stories and possibly longer writings. I give myself less pressure for writing than music - the goal/vision here is to keep the creativity flowing any way I can (throw this blog in here too). If I create some shareable stories out of this great! If not, that’s okay too. I’ll update here about the short story I am working on another time, but I am shooting for an outline by the end of the year, with a stretch goal of a first draft. (I just pushed it out because this is a lot)Dungeons and Dragons
This is just fun and another way to keep creativity in my week-to-week (or month to month I guess). Working on getting started, and I have a pre-made “adventure” I purchased so I don’t have to prep as much as a homebrew adventure.Brewing
Speaking of homebrew: I count this as a creative act, and while infrequent, I am hoping to share homebrews every season! Ask me about the Fake Oktoberfest I have in the works in a few weeks.
So now my goals are set in stone. But really, in code that I could delete if I want. I don’t know if the Void can keep me honest about these goals, but if you happen to read this, ask me about my progress. I’ll do my best not to be ashamed by the lack of it.
NO, let’s be positive dude! I will be excited for ANY progress, even small! Creating is fun! Take that Void!
Until next time.
**I started re-watching The Watchmen show on HBO. Turns out I watch the Watchmen. The third episode features a track called “The Brick”. It is a great vibe and has been in my head for days.
